Every Road Leads to Discovery.

The island has around 450 km of sealed and unsealed roads, all suitable for a standard 2WD vehicle, linking towns, lookouts, and beaches.
Hire cars are available from two local operators — Flinders Island Car Rentals and Cabin Park & Car Hire — both offering airport pick-up at Whitemark along with maps and local tips. It’s best to book ahead, as there is no public transport on the island.
If you’d prefer to bring your own vehicle, Bass Strait Freight runs a roll-on/roll-off ferry from Bridport, Tasmania, to Lady Barron. Sailings are limited to Tuesdays, with the crossing taking seven to eight hours.
Cyclists can freight their bikes by plane or ferry, and exploring on foot is always an option — just allow time, as the island spans 62 km by 37 km.
Driving here is relaxed, with little traffic, but take care at dawn, dusk, and night when wallabies and wombats are most active on the roads — and don’t forget to WAVE at fellow drivers, it’s the island way.
