Fishing
The catch of the day is yours to enjoy, whether it’s flathead, trevally, salmon, calamari, or other local species. Head to Lady Barron Wharf for squid or trevally, or try Salmon Rocks at the eastern end of Trousers Point Beach for kingfish or leatherjacket from the rocks.
At the North East River on an incoming tide, you may land an Australian Black Back Salmon. Western beaches such as Marshall Bay, Lillies Beach, and Long Point are also known for sizeable flathead. Surf fishing for gummy shark or flathead at Cameron’s or Patriarchs Inlets can be rewarding, particularly around the full moon – though caution is advised for stingrays.
The Lady Barron Store carries a large supply of fishing tackle and bait.
Please note: All fishing activities must comply with local regulations. Check the Tasmanian Government’s recreational fishing website for licensing requirements, size and bag limits, and seasonal restrictions before heading out.
