Local Wares, Art & Culture

The people of Flinders Island are creative and resourceful, and their talents are on full display in Whitemark and Lady Barron. From recycled driftwood art, roasted coffee, and local honeys, to wineries, distillery, handmade soaps, and unique crafts, you’ll get a true sense of the island’s heart and soul.

For a cultural fix, visit Strait Works Art Gallery, managed by the Furneaux Community Arts, which features rotating exhibitions by local artists and craftspeople. Many local shops also stock works from talented island creatives, offering plenty of opportunities to take home a piece of Flinders.

Keep in mind that gift shops, galleries, and supermarkets in Whitemark often close around noon on Saturdays and reopen on Monday. Sundays are a quiet time, with locals enjoying the outdoors—boating, walking on the beach, or simply relaxing. For local stories and current events, the Island News, published fortnightly on Thursdays, is a great resource found at Bowmans Store.
